Cocoa and Christmas Trees

I love Christmas traditions. But, as Nick has gotten older, he isn't quite as excited about making a gingerbread house, decorating cookies, and watching the old Christmas specials like Rudolph, The Little Drummer Boy and Charlie Brown. We used to sit and watch all the old specials (on VHS) while we decorated the tree, sipped hot cocoa, and decorated a gingerbread house with an overload of candy. We both looked forward to this special "bonding" time. No more (frown). Nick would rather play video games than decorate a gingerbread house.

With changing our website host at work, I've been keeping long hours. I planned on working all day on Saturday but...

About halfway through my day, Nick asked if we could go and pick out a tree TOGETHER and stop at Starbucks for hot cocoa!

When my 15-year-old boy asks me to do something WITH him... I drop everything! I cleaned off my desk and headed home.

We left soon after and stopped off at Starbucks for hot cocoa before heading to the tree lot that we always go to for our tree.

I take my time looking for the perfect tree while Nick makes jokes about my height and dares me to try to touch the top of the trees. (This too is part of our tradition.) We finally found the tree that we wanted to welcome into our home and Nick stopped to pose beside it with his cocoa!

I figured I better document this occasion in case it doesn't happen again! What a sweet moment that I will remember for a very long time.

Sweet Blessings,
LeAnn

LeAnn, I just read your wonderful article in the December P31 magazine and have now enjoyed a precious moment of love between you and your son. Having a 16 year old son myself, I know what a treasure it is when he suggests doing something with his mother. Praying I will never be too busy that I ignore and miss out on these moments that make forever memories!

Blessings,
Joy

Don't you love it when they want to spend time with you. I am with you I drop everything to spend time with any of my guys.
It is so funny they think rubbing their back or massaging their feet are a great way of spending time with them. :-)
Diane

time is better enjoyed when feet have been washed (tee hee)
